In clinic I have seen a number of women with BII test positive for a current viral infection such as Epstein–Barr virus (EBV) or Cytomegalovirus (CMV) or have antibodies show up on their blood test results. In fact, I myself recall coming down with the worst flu I have ever experienced whilst traveling in Europe (yep, good timing EBV!), 4 months after having my augmentation surgery. I eventually recovered from the flu symptoms such as nasal congestion, sore throat, fever and aches but my chronic fatigue and sinusitis stayed around.. for years, and guess what? I too have EBV antibodies.
So whats the link between EBV and BII? Well, this comes down to why some women become sick and other don’t. Whilst I don’t believe EBV alone causes BII, there are a number of factors that come into play however, it is a common recurring theme I am seeing.
When we have breast implants, our body becomes so focused on fighting this foreign object and protecting itself from the toxic chemical and heavy metals that it becomes less able to fight off foreign invaders. The result? Any viral infection laying dormant within our system is then able to make its move and proliferate. Not to mention, viruses love to feed off toxins and heavy metals (just like the ones in breast implants!).
Modern medicine has no answers for treating EBV; rather, only for trying to mitigate symptoms. Modern medicine just kind of shrug their shoulders collectively since EBV is so common and it is assumed nothing can be done. However, by supporting the immune system EBV can be conquered.
So, how did I get rid of my EBV? By removing my breast implants and supporting my immune system.
My go to supplements and herbs included: Glutamine, Zinc, Beta Glucan, Liquorice, Thuja, Curcumin, Astragalus, Vitamin C and N-acetylcysteine.
Identifying food sensitivities (different to allergies) - IGg mediator response testing for food sensitivities is key to reducing the inflammatory environment in which EBV thrives. Further reduce any stress on your immune system and healing your gut and essential for healing leaky gut.
Stress reduction - For me that meant saying the words ‘no’ when I felt I was taking on too much, feeling overwhelmed or knew it just wouldn’t serve my health in this moment. Daily meditation practice was vital, along with inward reflection and journaling.
My recommendation? Get yourself tested with your local GP (don’t guess, always test!) and follow a tailored immune protocol in order to concur autoimmune disease and get your health back on track.
